At 1000 yards I need to know which of the two guns has higher velocity and higher foot pounds.   This is an argument I need to win.

I have found the velocity and foot pounds at 500 yards but I need 1000 yard info.  I have done the computing on all the sites and my calculations say the 7mm Remington Mag is slightly faster and harder hitting, does anyone know if this is true?

We would need to know which particular bullets each would be using (brand and style for example Berger VLD vs. Sierra HPBT). It would also depend where you get the loading info... different loading manuals give different velocities.

If I were to compare the cartridges I would do it with load data from the same source and use the same brand and style of bullets for example....

Hogdon Reloading center data for 30-378 w/165gr bullet avg max load.... 3449 fps

Hogdon Reloading center data for 7 rem mag w/162gr bullet avg max load.... 2916 fps

Berger bullets 30 cal 168gr VLD .473 BC

Berger bullets 7mm 168gr VLD .617 BC

Now pluging the info into the ballistc software... Lex Talus Delta IV (using default DK etc)

30-378 1000yd velocity... 1786 fps     7mm rem mag 1000yd velocity... 1710 fps

30-378 1000yd energy...   1190 ft/lbs  7mm rem mag 1000yd energy... 1090 ft/lbs

It would be very easy to change the bullets or get reloading data from another source and make the ballistic calculator give you whatever results you'd like.

No problem... If you had specific bullets in mind I can run those too.

The guy shooting that 30-378 needs to wise up and switch to a 208gr AMAX or 210gr Berger.  Sniper 1

The result would tip in a huge manner in favor of that big 30 cal. My 300 Rummy is basically doing 3200 fps with the 208gr AMAX which equals 1971 fps & 1794 ft/lbs, at 1500 yds it drops to 1025 ft/lbs.

There is absolutely no comparing the 7mm rem mag to a 30-378 wby. You are talking a little gun vs. a big gun. With max accuracy loads and best bullets in each there is no comparison. The 30-378 with heavy vld bullets is a true long range heavy big game rifle. The 7mm rem mag is not.
