Wish I could have shown pictures from the match but it was between 19 and 25 degrees and the camera wouldn't work. My son's first F-class match (500yds) with a custom 223 and M193 Ball ammo. Next time I'll reload for him, but I'll wait untill it's much warmer. His best string was a 171-1x.

His rifle, I'm sure you'll notice the improvised cheek peice and extremely short length of pull.

I'm very proud that he got through the entire match under the conditions.... there were some full grown men there complaining more! He refused to wear gloves when shooting... talk about being comitted to accuracy.

Thanks for the kind words guys! Caleb is loving the feedback.

There is a seperate class for juniors. It was a poor showing due to the weather forecast of snow (which was wrong) and the low temps, so there was one other junior a 15 year old that I also brought along for his first match (nephew of the owner of Benchmark Barrels). Next time will be warmer so I'll get more pics.

Gideon will be old enough before you know it Sean... enjoy every stage of his development... it passes all to soon. I'm sure you'll have a little .22 waiting for him! Caleb started with the BB gun and quickly picked up the .22lr and just wasn't satisifed shooting out to 150yds... he wanted to shoot accross the canyons like us. He tried my 243 a few times but thought the recoil was a little too much, so I sold my 338 Lapua and  built his little 223. It's a fine rifle but it's tough to see bullet impacts beyond 500yds in the field. He recently started shooting my 243 and I think I'll be converting his rifle over to 243 next year.

Caleb with his .22 (he doesn't have much interest in it anymore).

I'm surprised there are enough kids in competitive shooting that they need their own class but then again I have not been around shooting very long and I have never been to a competition before. Ever since I bought my M1 I have been looking for service rifle competitions but there are none that I can find in my area.

It must be in the genes for boys to understand how a gun works and what sound it makes.  Sense Gideon was old
enough to walk he has been holding golf clubs or what ever he could stick in his shoulder and shooting stuff making guns noises.

You're absolutely right Sean... any stick is a gun... any little rock is a car or truck screaming through a road course! It's just the way it is.

P.S. You have a beautiful family Sean... something that's really worth being proud of!

Great little shooter! Wink

Yes sir. The best part is that I'm only 26years old, so him and I have many years ahead that we'll be able to do this together. I can't wait untill he can do the "sniper challenges" and practical long range shoots! He's going to have to master the standing position first. His skill is progressing fast.
