Yep, it's a Mosin Nagant.... my first one. Other than the TKIV 85, this is probably the finest rifle built from the Mosin Nagant action.
M28/76 Finnish marksmanship rifle.

You'll notice the butt of the rifle is infact canted so that it fits right in the crotch of your shoulder. It's also slightly offset to the right side so your face lines up better down the center of the bore.

I have some plans for this rifle, and I expect to use it in competition with a scope.

The trigger is MUCH better than I expected as I've fired many Nagants before. It's two stage and you can really tell when you're at that second stage. The break is very clean. They don't use the pin that holds the trigger in on most Nagants, they have an extra spring as well, this allows much more leverage.

I have always liked two stage over single.
I even adjusted my Remington to be the same way, just a little slack and a crisp release.

It' seems to allow you to be more prepared for the shot.

Nice. Looks nothing like my M44. What kind of groups can you get with that thing?

I'll let you know when I get it ready to shoot. I have the scope mount comming, and will be putting my Nightforce NXS 3.5-15x50 on it. I expect arround 1/2 to 3/4 MOA with hand loads, but we'll see. I'll eventually be re-barreling it to 260 rem (or at least that's my plan as of now). The bolt face will have to be filled in and re-machined for the .473" bolt face, the magazine will also require some modification, so the swap will take longer than normal.

Here's some pics of my Sako/Nagant with my buddies Tikka 595 Mastersporter (I guess we're hooked on finnish rifles).

I'm having to make a custom scope base. I made a peice to replace the rear sight and it will be welded to the 20 MOA blank base. I mocked it up to see how it'll work out here's some pics....

Here's the peice I made...

Here's what it should look like...

Got the barrel blank, it's a lighter contour than I'm used to but it should allow the rifle to be very well ballanced. I normally like to go with varmint countour and heavier, but I don't want to hang too heavy a barrel off this reciever.

So it looks like there is just a lack of "meat" for the base?
The costume piece you made will screw in along the channel adding the rest of it for your base right.
That is going to be a sexy looking gun

I just noticed but is it going to be a problem with the variable power being so close to the base.
It might be fine and I cant tell from the picture.

P.S.  Got are tax's done and when we get the return back I was going to place a order for a barrel from Benchmark.
But my wife bless her soul messed up the first time so we cant Efile, we have to send it in.  So instead of a week its now like 5 to 7 weeks.   O well  Sad

Ya, since there's no rear bridge like most other actions have, the only way the rear of the base can be secured is from the side. The competition sights the rifle comes with are mounted on the left side, there's a channel that it slides into and then it can be secured. The peice I made slides into that same channel (I still need to drill the hole) The actual base will be mounted to the front of the action as would any normal rifle and the rear of the base will be welded to the peice I made. So to install the base you'd have to slide it forward (so the rear peice slides into the channel) and then you could bolt down. I'm hoping this allows it to very reliable. Many scope mounts for Mosin Nagants for use with regular scopes, just hang out over the rear of the action. These generally don't hold zero, they're not strong (they could break if the rifle was dropped etc.) There is one company "Rock Solid Inc" that makes a good scope base for the nagant, but I'd have to wait several weeks, and I wouldn't have 20 MOA built in. The base blank I'm using is made from steel and very heavy so once everything's welded up I'll be cutting and releiving some areas to drop weight and make more room for working the bolt.

The scope is very close arround the eyepeice, but it does clear. I may releive this part of the base to allow more room, but we'll see.

Taxes are a pain! I haven't even started mine yet. I think you'll like their barrels  Wink.
