Just out of interest is anyone shooting the 6.5 creedmoor at the moment and if so what are your thoughts?, is the cartridge taking off in the target shooting arena like it was suppose to ?, im thinking about building a custom long ranger rifle on a smaller calibre and i like what ive read about the creedmoor Smiley

I'm sure it's taking off in some areas. In the Northwest the 6.5x47 Lapua is by far the most popular at the long range practical shooting matches and I have several buddies that use this cartridge. I also have a buddy shooting the Creedmoor and it seems to be just fine. I'm building a 260 rem currently but I can run over 3" OAL in the rifle I'm using. If you're building on a short action (2.80" OAL) I'd go with either the 6.5 creedmore or the 6.5x47 Lapua. If you don't reload the 6.5 Creedmoor is pretty much the only way to go.

Mine is built on a Mosin Nagant.... http://longrangeshooter.com/forums/index.php/topic,209.0.html
so it's not exactly long or short... I can run 3.2" OAL easy (my rounds are just under 3"). I really like it, already used it in a match!

Oh yeah I saw that. Never thought a Mosin Nagant would qualify as a match grade target rifle.

I thought that it would be reasonably accurate.... but it exceeded my expectations! I can't say it's as good as any other rifle (although I would argue that it's as accurate as most) as it requires a great deal of concentration and follow through since the lock time is slow and the trigger is less than ideal. I think that a rifle like this, which requires proper marksmanship techniques to shoot to its potential, will only help me improve. In fact it's kind of eye opening in that you discover (all over again) where all the "rules of marksmanship" come from. My 243 is on the other end of the spectrum, anyone can shoot it with a very high level of accuracy/repeatablility. I've had a bunch of newbie's out hitting clay pigeons at 850yds, no problem.

What modifications did you make to the rifle for it to feed the .260 reliably? It is a pretty different case from the 7.62x54r.

There is a tab that sticks through the left side of the action that keeps the round below from catching the round that's being fed (this was so the rim's of the 7.62x54R would not catch on each other). I had to bend that tab so that the round I'm feeding would sit slightly higher than origionally. To extract I had to modify the stationary plunger (I'm not sure what else to call it) so that it would catch the smaller case head of the 260 and eject the shell (the extractor was also moved in slightly). Feeding is probably about 80% and extracting is 100%. If you know how it likes to be worked it feeds nearly 100%.

Hey guys,

I posted some questions about 6.5 Creedmoor, that should have been in this thread, on the Ballistics thread. Sorry.

Also, does anybody know where to buy any Hornady ammo for this caliber?Huh?

Thanks Lucas. I have done exactly that a few weeks ago and everyone is out, including AbleAmmo. Some of them let you order on line as if it is in stock, then you get an email telling you the truth that they are out of stock and that your order will be filled whenever they get the ammo in. I just called Hornady and talked to the guy in charge of the ammo plant, he said they are making the 140 A-Max right now and will be shipping shortly.
