What barrel length would you recommend for hunting elk and deer at 800-1000 yards with a 300 win. mag caliber? I have a 22" rem 700 BDL right now, but was thinking more in the lines of a 24-26? Any and ALL suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Increasing the barrel length will increase your muzzle velocity which will help a bit.
A very rough rule of thumb is 50 fps per 2 inches.
How tight of groups are you shooting right now?

I'm about 7/8" -1-1/8" off sand bags at 100 yds. What should I be at to consider this rifle as a candidate?

With that grouping you could do ok to about 600 yards but I would like to see at least half that for 800 to 1000 yards.  Do you reload your own ammo or do you buy factory?

I have not reloaded rilfe but I am actually going to get a press this week and start reloading. I have a friend that reloaded for me but he sold his equipment. Do you have any load suggetions for the 300 win mag that I might start with and see if I can get some improvement? I sure appreciate your input, Thanks.

In my 300wm (Sako TRG) I'm running 76.3gr H-1000, 208 A-Max bullets (good priced) in Winchester brass, and Remington 9 1/2 Magnum primers .020" off the lands. Load runs 2840fps.... Very Accurate! Start low and work up!
