You are absolutely right on that one X-man
I plan on turning my gun into the Edge this spring and am really looking forward to it.

The big 338's are a lot of fun...More than anything I found the 300SMK is a big step in the right direction.
Don't know if you have ever taken the time to talk to Sean Carlock, but he is a great guy and is very helpful.
Certainly worth the phone call.


I have 2 338 Edge rifles.
One 8.5 pound hunting rifle, and the other is an 18 pound A-5 stocked beast...Love them both!

Hi folks.

I am new here and I was intrigued by the RUM posts and the 6.5's. I shoot .338 RUM, .338x.300RUM (EDGE), .300RUM, 7mmRUM, and last but not least, a 6.5x.300/7mm RUM. I built and started shooting the 6.5 about
a year ago before anyone that I know of. I have had great results. I love the .338 EDGE for really long ranges
with really awesome ballistics and accuracy, but the 6.5 is even better (except of course for straight lbs/ft) and
practically recoil free in my 15 lb gun. That gun is a 700 with a 32" Kreiger, 1 in 8 twist. I shoot the slowest
powders (AA8700, US869, RL 25, H50BMG, Retumbo and H1000). When I started there were few guidelines
for reloading that rifles so I started out light and worked my way up until I STARTED getting pressure signs. That was around 3650 fps with 142 gr SMK's and 3850 fps with 123 gr. SMK's. I backed off,while concentrating on looking for accuracy within acceptable pressures. I am just now fine tuning my loads and they are around 3400-3500 fps with 140 gr bullets and 3500-3600 fps with 120 gr bullets. I expect that I will
probably be re-chambering and then re-barrelling within 1000 to 2000 round. However, now that the load development phase is about over, I will get to make a lot of very small groups on far, far away targets, with
a smile on my face and no bruised shoulders. I think it is worth it. Thanks for listening, folks, and I hope to hear back from you all.
