Anyone got an opinion on the best twist rate for a 7mmWSM.

I note that most of the factory rifles that come out have 9.25 or 9.5 twists.
Is this good enough to stabilise the 180 grain Berger bullet? or would a faster twist be better?

If so what?

Also what would be an ideal barrel length for a 7mmWSM with a sporter weight barrel?

That should be fine for a Berger bullet.  When I was shooting 210gr VLD they wanted a 1 in 11 or faster so you should have no trouble.

Thank you
To many forums out there that have a bunch of opinionated people that don't welcome new members.
So I wanted to do the opposite.
So on that note Welcome to LRS and if you have any questions please let me know

As Sean says you'll be fine with that twist rate... If you're ordering a new barrel I'd go 1:9 as that's Berger's recommendation for the .284" 180gr VLD. Bryan Litz has a site on bravehost where he gives specific information about the stabilization of the bullet in question. He also happens to be the head ballistician at Berger bullets!

On my 7wsm I went with a 26" barrel. The BR guys often go longer but I felt I'd gain little in MV over 26" in length. I wouldn't recommend going much shorter than 24" if you plan to use the 180gr bullet which is usually best suited with slow burning powders.
